Avoca Dunecare

Calling all nature lovers!

The dunes at Avoca Beach are in poor shape – filled with invasive plants like Asparagus Fern and Lantana that smother native plant species and prevent them from flourishing.

Under the guidance of Central Coast Council, a group of local volunteers is working on the dunes every month with the goal of protecting, rehabilitating and improving the natural dune environment in Avoca Beach.

We hope to improve the diversity of the fauna and flora of the dunes, restoring a more natural habitat. This will help reduce erosion and enhance the beach’s natural ecosystems, encouraging the return of native plants and the animals that depend on them.

We are starting with an achievable goal – to rehabilitate the small section of dunes between the shark tower and the car park.

We meet on the third Friday of each month (except January). The next session is on FRIDAY 19 JULY, FROM 8AM TO 10:30AM. Meet in the car park behind the shark tower (near the toilets).

No commitment is necessary. Come just once, or come every month, it’s up to you. Tools, gloves and expert advice provided.
