Beach Clean Up

World Ocean Day 2024 Beach Clean Up, hosted by Plastic Free Avoca Beach

In celebration of World Ocean Day 2024, Plastic Free Avoca Beach is hosting a community clean up in Hunter Park, Avoca Beach on Saturday 8 June. Everyone is welcome to grab a bag and join us as we pick up rubbish from the beach and foreshore.

More than 8 million tons of plastic enter the ocean every year and up to 40,000 pieces of plastic are estimated to float in every square kilometre of ocean. Not only is this unsightly but it can be harmful to wildlife such as turtles, dolphins and seabirds who mistake it for food or get entangled in it.

If you’re concerned about the amount of plastic and other litter you see on our beaches and foreshores, come join our community clean up. This event will be family friendly and inclusive. Gloves and clean up equipment provided.

 Registration from 9:00 am

Clean-up from 9:15 am to 10:00 am

Free cookies and cake after the clean up. Coffee available from local cafes – please bring a reusable cup.

All rubbish collected will be sorted, counted and recorded in the Australian Marine Debris Database which is used by scientists and researchers tackling the problem of marine pollution.
