Avoca Drive Upgrade
The NSW Transport Department recently released a draft design for the first stage of an upgrade of Avoca Drive through Kincumber.
This first stage with a $130 million budget provided by the Federal and State Governments will extend from about Kincumber Public School to the lower part of Dunlop Hill (past the shopping centre). The design includes:
A four lane roadway ; and
An on-road cycleway and shared pathways
The Avoca Beach Community Association made a submission on this project. The main points were:
General support for the project to reduce road congestion for Avocans (and others) travelling in the area.
Support for the inclusion of the passive access avenues – cycleway and shared pathway. And the need for these – as part of the vision for a complete shared pathway from Avoca Beach to Kincumber to the Brisbane Water - to recognize the separate initiative for a shared pathway along the Avoca Beach section of Avoca Drive (Scenic Highway to Heazlett Park) and make possible in future completion of the missing link between Empire Bay Drive and the Scenic Highway roundabout.
