‘The Goat Track’

‘The Goat Track’: It’s the uneven and narrow trail on the Western side of Cape Three Points Road between Cabbage Tree Avenue and Ridgway Road at the south end of Avoca. Pedestrians take their life in their hands each day when they walk it – especially school students.

A campaign by ABCA has been underway for almost a year to build a pathway and effect road repairs for the safety of both pedestrians and drivers.

Through consultation with Council, State and Federal representatives, progress is being made.

Our 450m footpath project was submitted by Council for funding under the NSW Government “Get NSW Active” 2024/25 program. We await an announcement anytime soon to see if the project grant has been successful.

Additionally, State Member, Adam Crouch, has agreed to directly submit for funding the pathway project in this year’s state budget.

In the meantime, Scott Jarvis (Section Manager Roads Technical Services, Central Coast Council) has confirmed Council will be moving forward with short term works aimed at improving road safety.

You may have noticed a recent widening of the western shoulder of Cape Three Points before Ridgway Road. With line marking, the pedestrian area will be clearer for drivers. Road repair between Ridgway and Cabbage Tree is more complex and difficult and council are currently seeking engineering and financial solutions. However, we have been advised that further asphalting to complete all road shoulder widening, as well as line marking and warning signage, will happen this financial year - great news.

Without a proper footpath along the ‘Goat track’ driver speed remains a significant factor for pedestrian safety. We understand police patrols may increase in this area so best to stick to the 50km speed limit!
